(Online-Merker)

Zigeunerlieder / Gypsy Songs
compact disc: ARS-Production (2004)
New release 04/07 MusiContact:
The present CD offers a representative selection of "Gypsy Songs" from the early nineteenth century to well into the twentieth century. Considering the abundance of material, it cannot lay any claim to completeness but allows nevertheless some fascinating insights into a colorful musical world full of great feelings and vehement temperaments. The f act that in some cases the same poem was set to music by different composers permits some exciting possibilities of comparison. It is also very revealing to examine how many or how few typical characteristics of the "Gypsyish" integrate into the music (it is particular evident for example in Liszt’s famous ballad The Three Gypsies, a vocal Hungarian rhapsody, or in the songs by Moscheles and Hiller, who tried to imitate the tambourine in their piano accompaniments).
